James "Jim" Kirby Obituary

James “Jim” Roby Kirby, 83, of Kings Mountain, passed away at Mission Hospital in Asheville on March 9, 2024. He was born March 4, 1941, in Lincoln County, to the late Lawrence Johnson Kirby and Mary Estelle Horne Kirby. 

He is preceded in death by his son, James Kirby, Jr.; brothers, David Kirby, Kenny Kirby.

Jim was a highly decorated United States Marine veteran with 20 years of service, serving during the Vietnam Era and a police officer with Gaston County Police Department. He was a faithful member of First Baptist Church in Kings Mountain.

Left to cherish his memory is his loving wife of 44 years, Linda Arrowood Kirby; daughter, Alison Kirby; stepson, Derek Alexander (Shannon); brother, Charles Kirby; brother-in-law, Rick Arrowood (Carmen); sisters-in-law, Patty Butler (Freddy), Nancy Arrowood; nieces, Melanie Splawn (Scott), Windy Gibson (David), Cyndie Roney (Craig), Teresa Kirby, Melody Jackson, Joy Kirby; nephews, Kenny Kirby (Stacy), Chuck Kirby (Jeannie), David Kirby (Suzanne); 5 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 10:00 AM to 10:45 AM in the Stained Glass Room at First Baptist Church, Kings Mountain and Jim will lie in state in the Sanctuary on Wednesday, March 13, 2024.

Jim’s funeral service will be held 11:00 AM on Wednesday, March 13, 2024, at First Baptist Church, Kings Mountain  with Bro. Chip Sloan officiating.

His burial is private.
